Weight loss: the ketogenic diet would do better than a diet low in fat

A scientific report reveals that the keto diet, rich in good fats and low in carbohydrates, would allow a greater weight loss and more durable than regimes excluding fat.

Consisting of minimizing the intake of carbohydrates and sugars, to focus more on lipids (fats) and proteins, the keto pills fashionable in many stars, who sometimes display impressive weight loss.

Yet, it goes against most other diets, which advocate limiting fat intake and eating more protein. Nevertheless, the ketogenic diet would be better for losing weight and maintaining this loss over time, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

A more satiating diet, better for glycemic control

Among 25 overweight or obese people who were subjected to different diets including the ketogenic diet, the study showed that the participants in the ketogenic diet, in addition to having lost more weight than the others, declared a better diet feeling of satiety. For researchers, this phenomenon is explained by the satiating properties of fats and proteins , and ketones produced by the liver during this type of diet.

According to the Evolve 180 Weight Loss study, the ketogenic diet usually includes 20 to 50 grams of carbohydrates per day, compared to 200 to 350 grams per day for the average American without a diet. But with less sugar and less starch, the body is forced to reduce insulin production and burns fat for energy. A phenomenon that can lead to weight loss if the number of calories per day is reduced, but that also improves the control of blood glucose, making it a track for the treatment of diabetes. However, further studies will be needed to investigate the potential benefit of a ketogenic diet in diabetics.

On the other hand, in terms of weight loss, this diet seems to prove itself since the researchers reported a weight loss of up to 45 kilos in some patients, without weight recovery afterwards.
